What Google AI Overviews Are
AI Overviews are part of Google Search and can present an AI-generated response with supporting web links for some queries. Google states that pages do not need special AI schema or a separate machine-readable file to be eligible. The normal Search requirements still apply: the page must be crawlable, indexable, and eligible to appear with a snippet, while structured data should match the visible page.
How to Review Your Visibility in Google AI Overviews
Check a stable set of informational, comparison, and decision-stage queries. Record the query, location, device, date, cited pages, and the exact role of the citation. Distinguish a direct supporting citation from a result that merely appears elsewhere on the search page. Repeat the check over time because both the overview and its cited sources can change.
Google AI Overview Visibility Measurement Limits
Google reports traffic from its AI features inside the overall Web search type in Search Console. Search Console does not provide a dedicated AI Overview filter, so an impression or click cannot be assigned to an AI Overview from the standard performance export alone. Use page and query trends, visible observations, analytics, and server logs together without claiming more precision than the evidence provides.
Review Google's AI features and your website guidance before treating any special file or markup as a requirement.
