AI Search Surfaces Are Observation Tools
ChatGPT Search, Claude, Google AI features, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity can show how a system answers a question, which entities appear, and which sources are displayed. The result is specific to that surface, question, date, and available context.
Use a stable question set when comparing visibility. Record mentions, cited URLs, factual accuracy, competitors, and whether a follow-up changes the answer. One result can reveal a problem. Repeated results are needed before calling it a trend.
What These Resources Cannot Prove
A citation does not prove a click. A mention does not prove endorsement. A crawler request does not prove that the crawler issued the query or used the page in an answer. Keep the observation useful by keeping its limit visible.
