What the Rich Results Test Checks
Google's Rich Results Test checks whether a page contains structured data that can qualify for Google-supported rich result types. Test a public URL when you want Google to fetch the rendered page, or paste code while developing markup that is not live yet. Review both detected items and the issues reported for each item.
What a Passing Result Means
A valid result means the tested markup meets the tool's technical requirements for a supported feature. It does not guarantee that Google will show a rich result. Search quality, page content, policy compliance, indexing, query context, and other systems still affect what appears.
What the Tool Does Not Check
The test is not a complete validator for every Schema.org type and property. Use the Schema Markup Validator for broader vocabulary and syntax review. Neither tool confirms that a claim is accurate, that markup matches the visible page, or that relationships between entities are editorially correct. Those checks require a human review of the page and its JSON-LD.
Recommended Workflow
- Validate syntax and vocabulary.
- Confirm every marked-up fact is visible and accurate.
- Run the Rich Results Test for Google-supported features.
- Inspect the live URL after deployment.
- Monitor the relevant enhancement report in Search Console when one is available.
