AI Findability
AI findability is the ability of an AI-powered search, retrieval, or answer system to discover a source or entity and connect it to a relevant question. It covers access, indexing or retrieval eligibility, topic alignment, and entity clarity. It does not establish that the system cited, recommended, or accurately represented the source.
Findability is the earliest useful layer of AI search visibility. A page must be reachable and relevant before it can become a useful source. Citation and recommendation happen later and need their own data.
Improving AI findability normally involves crawl access, internal discovery, direct answers, clear entities, accurate structured data, and content that matches the question being asked.
The distinction matters because a crawler request proves access to a recorded URL, not successful use inside an answer.
How to Check AI Findability
AI findability is the first of the three parts of AI search visibility, the part called retrieved. Two checks cover it:
- Run the free AI Search Visibility Checker on the page. Its first layer tests whether AI crawlers are allowed, whether the content is in the HTML and whether the page names its canonical URL.
- Look at your server logs for crawler requests to the page. If nothing came, the problem is access, not content.
The second check has limits. AI bot data shows that crawlers came. It does not show that the page was used, and across five websites it did not predict search visibility either.
Where AI Findability Stops
